The last post of 2013.

Its a few hours left to a brand new year! Its really common that at this point of time, everyone is busy thinking of their new year resolution but to be honest, how many of you can even remember what your new year resolution was last year? Well, I can't. Not even a tiny bit.

I know my new year resolutions have always been along the line of 'I'm going to be ultra skinny this year' or 'a new year is a new beginning' that kinda stuff. But i'll be really enthusiastic about it for a week and I will completely forget about my resolution afterwards. Hey, admit it. Many of you are like that.

Time seriously waits for no one. Looking back and reflecting on what I've accomplished in 2013, I don't think I've achieved anything much. I've graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Changed jobs like thrice. Finally launched eatvoguelove and finally am stable in a job that I like. There are so many other milestones to complete and its scary growing up. It used to be really fun when I was little but now its just filled with survival skills and bills to pay.

I spent my new year at Zouk last year with a couple of whacky friends. I remember that that was my first countdown at a club and at 11.45pm, my friends and I ran from the bridge to Zouk just in time for the countdown and after the countdown, we strolled back to the bridge to finish up our drinks. It was really silly but a very memorable event.

This year, I've been sooo busy that I completely forgot that New Year's Eve is today. Didn't make any plans nor have any intentions to get crazy and high either. I know I'm only 20 but I feel like I'm 60 inside. Even my mum is heading to Clarke Quay to have fun with her girlfriends. *yikes.

In the end, the boy and I will probably end up cooking at home, sipping wine while catching a movie - the very relaxed life while everyone is partying and boozing away. I think this life suits me more now. I'll probably fall asleep on the dance floor if I'm at Zouk this year. Haha!

I have sooo many posts to update on eatvoguelove but I haven't had the time to do so cause ChicKissLove has been keeping me really busy. So here's a new year resolution 2014: Update Eatvoguelove more & to have a evl fanbase! (I promise I'll really keep this new year resolution this time!!)

Happy New Year guys!
May all your dreams & wishes come true.

Ps: I have unicorn mermaid hair now. So your wishes are bound to come true.

Nail Foil Stickers: How to apply them and where to get it.

Sometime last week, I posted a picture of my super chic nail foil stickers on eatvoguelove's Facebook page and as promised, here's a quick tutorial on how to apply these babies and where to get them.

When it comes to my nails, I get super turn off from having to wait for them to dry because a minute later, I'll prolly bump into something and I'll have to reapply the whole thing again which is SUPER annoying.

However, these foil stickers made my life wayyy better and easier because they are stickers so I no longer have to be careful after I apply my nails.
Not only that, you can get super chic and pretty nails within 10 minutes tops!
What you require: Nail Polish Remover | Base Coat | Top Coat |
Nail File | Scissors | Cotton Pad | Nail Foil Stickers
Here's how you apply them nail foil stickers:
1. Clean your nails with nail polish remover to remove any impurities from previous mani.
2. Apply a base coat and let it dry.
3. Take out the pattern strip that you want from the nail foil stickers.
**Do note that you should try and match the sticker sizes with your nails
4. Paste the nail foil stickers on your nail completely without bubbles.
**The wider side goes to where you always cut your cuticles
5. Fold down the excess stickers and file it off DOWNWARDS
**Filing it in any other direction will cause the sticker to tear or wrinkle up.
**Some prefer to cut off some of the excess first before filing so its up to you!
6. Apply top coat to make it shine!

I got my nail foil stickers from some pop up booth but there are a couple of websites selling them at super affordable prices!
You can get them from Qoo10 for just S$1.90++ (depending on your designs) or from Mumyathome for just S$2!

Applying nails have never been faster, prettier and cheaper ;)

'Thor: The Dark World' Movie Review

THOR: The DARK WORLD -
Marvel’s "Thor: The Dark World" continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s "Thor" and "Marvel’s The Avengers," Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos...but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness.
Genre: Action, Adventure
Running Time: 112 mins
Release Date: 31st October 2013

EVL'S REVIEW: I looked forward to the second instalment of Thor and like every other Marvel movie, it simply just doesn't make sense if you caught the first and not the sequel of it. I was really afraid that Thor couldn't live up to its first release because as we all know, chances of the sequel or a remake of a movie being even better than their first release, is really rare. THANKFULLY, Thor: The Dark World left me feeling pretty satisfied. Just look at the movie stills!! Its enough to make you want to catch it isnt it? ;)
One of my fav characters in Thor - Heimdall

I absolutely love Loki in this sequel. He's humorous and as usual VERY smart and sly. You'll have to watch the movie to get what I mean else I'll reaally be spoiling the movie for you. Tom Hiddleston is truly amaaaazing.
I know how annoyingly painful it can be when you don't know if you should stay for the post credits of a movie ESPECIALLY for movies like Marvel and X-Men so to save you the pain...
Thor: The Dark World has 2 post credit scenes. The first is after the main post credit that everyone always stays for because its short and the second is after the full post credit (literally rolling to the end of the entire film). So stay till the end of the credit if you want to catch both of the post credits! ;)

Have a great Tuesday! xoxo.

'Escape Plan' Movie Review

ESCAPE PLAN (NC 16): One of the world's foremost authorities on structural security agrees to take on one last job: breaking out of an ultra-secret, high-tech facility called "The Tomb". Deceived and wrongly imprisoned, Ray Breslin (Sylvester Stallone) must recruit fellow inmate Emil Rottmayer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to help devise a daring, nearly impossible plan to escape from the most protected and fortified prison ever built.
Escape Plan is the first pairing of action legends Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger in leading roles, and co-stars Jim Caviezel, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Vinnie Jones, Vincent D'Onofrio and Amy Ryan.
Genre: Action, Mystery, Thriller
Running Time: 116 mins
Release Date: 24th October 2013

EVL'S REVIEW: Escape Plan was pure genius. It is probably one of the BEST Action, Thriller film I've ever caught this year. Every minute of the movie keeps my mind running & twirling - wondering what Ray Breslin is going to do next, will so and so betray so and so just for survival in "The Tomb", who will die next, and yet every single moment whatever you think turns out to be the opposite. Love shows like such when you can never anticipate what the next moment will bring.

I completely adore the fact that Rambo Actor, Sylvester Stallone and the one and only Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger are both the lead actors of this film. These 2 actors not only portrayed their roles perfectly, they also gave the entire film a slight comedy twist.

I've been anticipating to catch Escape Plan wayyy before its release because I enjoy shows that keeps my mind busy. If you are hoping that Escape Plan is super adrenaline packed because these 2 Expandables stars are in it, then you have to set your hopes down because Escape Plan doesn't have much action at all. It's really more of Ray Breslin being the smart ass and Emil Rottmayer helping his escape plans. Its more brain muscles than muscle muscles.

Nonetheless, if you are a huge fan of  Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Escape Plan is definitely worth catching!

'Carrie' 2013 Remake Movie Review

CARRIE: A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (ChloĆ« Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.
Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, Carrie is directed by Kimberly Peirce with a screenplay by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
Release Date: 24th October 2013
Running Time: 100 mins

EVL'S REVIEW: I can NEVER take Horror genre films well and if I could stand watching the entire show of Carrie, so can you.
Carrie features a typical super religious mother whom is very overprotective of her daughter that simply wants some freedom. Mean girls, the girl whose always bullied, cute hot popular jocks - typical American bitch club drama takes up majority of the running time so it wasn't all that scary to begin with.
The only horrible turn begins at probably the last 30 minutes of the film which is honestly super bearable. It wasn't scary but it was just a little gore. If you want to compare the extend of Carrie's horror to Paranormal Activity, The Last Exorcism, then there is simply nothing scary about Carrie at all. (I couldn't sleep after The Last Exorcism, it was HORRIBLE)

Julianne Moore (also from Crazy Stupid Love), portrayed the crazy religious mother really well. I've never seen her in a horror film before but her portrayal of her character was perfection. ChloĆ« Grace Moretz on the other hand portrayed Carrie better than I think she would. The Kick Ass actress definitely deserves a thumbs up for her role in Carrie.

I gave 'Carrie' a rating of 3/5 because of its storyline. However, the movie itself wasn't all that thrilling, neither was it all that scary. I wouldn't watch it again either because I felt that a lot of time were wasted in the beginning trying to build the plot up. Understand that it is necessary but I think its too much. Like what they always say: 'More action, Less talking. (*in italian accent)'

What do YOU think about 'Carrie'?

Fancy Hair Colors: How to get it right and maintain it.

Confession: I'm a HUGE fan of getting funky hair colors. The crazier it is, the happier I am.
Such hair colors include Ariel's Red, Pastel Purple, Royal Blue, Bright Pink, etc etc.
Purple with Pink Ombre
Dark Red with Pink Ombre
However, its a freaking huge pain in the ass when the colors begin to fade on DAY ONE and after a week, your hair is either back to orange or brown or worse, some hay color that you cannot wait to get rid of. Been there, done that.

I've googled online on ways to maintain hair colors like Red (I'm a huge fan of Red cause everyone says I look like Ariel heehee) and there were crazy suggestions such as:

1. Do not wash your hair for 3 days. The oil keeps the color in your hair.
(This is true but I'm sorry but I can NEVER do this. I have a crazily oily scalp and not washing it for a day is suicidal enough.)
2. Wash your hair with conditioner only.
3. Insert dye into your shampoo.

No offense to people who did any of the above because I understand, we really want the color to stay. Trust me, I've tried sooo many different ways to maintain my colors INCLUDING what I've mentioned above. I researched into every single shampoos and conditioners that would help and none of them did.

UNTIL...

i met Medavita (:
Available at D'Image Salon
371 Bukit Batok St 31, #01-324

Medavita shampoo ($28 for the smaller bottle - 250ml) has a pH value of 5.8 which is the ideal pH value of a shampoo especially for fresh dyed hair. pH balanced shampoos help to keep your hair cuticles closed in order to retain the color so you should always get shampoos with a pH value of 5 to 7 especially if you've just colored your hair!

This Medavita shampoo isn't foamy at all so don't be alarmed by it or start pouring out the entire bottle cause it doesn't work that way. Just wash your hair the way you usually would and get used to how little foam it gives out.

So far, this is the ONLY shampoo that I've used that works PERFECTLY. Usually my red fades into orange and brown after 2 weeks but even after a month-ish, my red was still intact even though my ends were a little orange.
Ariel's Red
After a month
I get my hair done at D'Image Bukit Gombak for about S$200ish dollars including bleaching and the best thing is, they ALWAYS manage to get the color that I want on my hair which is really really important!!
I've visited other salons in the past and they could never get the exact color that I want. If you decide to get such bright colors one day, be sure to check if your salon have had any experiences with such dyes beforehand. D'Image always shows me photos of what they've done thats why I dare leave my hair in their hands.

Have a great Friday ya'll! xoxo.
